January 4th is World Hypnotism Day . WA’s own state association , PHWA Inc would like to take this opportunity to raise public awareness to the benefits and many applications of this safe and effective therapy .

While many people in the state have now experienced hypnosis , there are still some fears and misconceptions around .

For those to whom hypnosis is a parlor trick , or a scam perhaps , there are more than nine thousand scientifically researched articles on the net , proving that hypnosis does indeed work .

Research from Harvard Medical School and other institutions demonstrate that hypnosis is a process of mind over body where physiological changes occur which activate certain parts of the
brain , including that part that is responsible for focused attention .

Hypnosis has been accepted by mainstream medical institutions , and in Australia , it is an integral part of services offered to pregnant women at the Royal Adelaide Women’s Hospital . Officially recognized by the American Medical Association in 1958 , and given the support of the National Institute of Health , it is used very successfully in the management of pain , for cancer and other pain conditions . However the applications for hypnosis are endless and include :

Quit smoking
Confidence / self esteem
Weight loss , control and management
Stress / anxiety / panic attacks / post traumatic stress disorder
Insomnia / sleep onset , duration and quality
Depression , moodiness / swings , grief
Pain control , relief and management
Fears , anxiety , phobias
Nerves , nail biting
Sports performance
Asthma / breathing problems
Bedwetting
Erectile dysfunction / sexual issues
Jealousy / anger / envy / guilt
Rebuilding relationships
Increasing motivation and drive
Examination nerves / final exams
Stuttering / public speaking
Optimising immune function
Regression / releasing the past
Children’s issues
Drug and alcohol abuse
Diabetes management

Hypnosis is a pleasant and relaxing way to improve your well being , correct unwanted behaviours , and remove addictions . If you would like to find out more information about how hypnosis can help you, speak to a hypnotherapist, test your suggestibility or even register for a free introductory session (with participating practitioners), visit PHWA information booths in Marry Street Mall in Perth or outside the Town Hall in Fremantle on World Hypnotism Day, Sunday 4th January from 12pm-6pm.

To find a qualified hypnotherapist in your area , visit the PHWA website , or one of the national associations , such as the AHA , or the CCH . These organizations have strict regulations that require members to attend regular training to keep their membership , ensuring that clients always have the benefit of the latest research and techniques .
